Glee actor Robbie Coltrane, who played Hagrid on the ‘Harry Potter’ books and movies, has died. He was 72.

Actor Robbie Coltrane has died at the age of 72. Coltrane was well known for his roles in “Glee,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Family Guy,” and “The Office,” where he played Jim Halpert.

A native of New Jersey, Coltrane got his start in the entertainment world as a teenager, appearing in several movies before moving to Los Angeles in the early ’80s to pursue a career in the music and film industry. Later, he transitioned from the music industry to the world of comedy and television.

Coltrane’s first foray into theater happened when he was just 15 years old; he made his professional debut in the musical adaptation of “Gypsy” at the La Jolla Playhouse. He then made his Broadway debut in 1983 with a role in “Stomping Diva: The Musical,” but that role would be his first on camera performance.

In addition to his roles in “Family Guy” and “The Office,” Coltrane appeared in the films “The Long Walk Home” and “Paddington 2.” His film credits include “The Last American Vampire,” “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian,” and the biopic “The Color Purple.”

Coltrane appeared in an episode of “Fremont 5” back in the day. The episode, “Wooly, Wooly, Wooly” aired on Dec. 20, 2009.

Coltrane is survived by his third wife Elizabeth; two daughters, Lauren and Brooke; and two sons, Jack and Liam, as well as three grandchildren.

“Robbie Coltrane was and always will be an incredibly talented man of many talents,” said his daughter Elizabeth in a statement. “He will be sorely missed by the entire Coltrane family.”
