A debate between Florida Senate candidates Marco Rubio and Gwen Graham turned confrontational Tuesday evening as both candidates sparred over restrictions on abortion.

Rubio said in a speech Tuesday night that there are ways to fix Florida’s reproductive healthcare system, including “fixing the Hyde Amendment” by repealing it. Hyde was part of the 1973 law that prohibited Medicaid funding for most abortion coverage.

Rubio called for a ban on all abortions, including “home and trans-vaginal” ones.

Gwen Graham called for a complete ban on abortions, regardless of location or medical necessity.

Rubio began by asking Graham how she could support a ban on abortion without admitting to being pro-life.

“I believe that every life is a precious life, that every life has value,” said Graham, with a smirk she was clearly working on, “If by ‘life,’ you mean the ability to think and make decisions for yourself, then I have no problem with you. I would agree with you 100 percent.”
