Carlos Alcaraz Wins the U.S. Open at Firestone

Carlos Alcaraz defeats Casper Ruud to win the US Open final

Carlos Alcaraz is one of the most exciting players on the PGA Tour. He has won five tour events and has played on four different Ryder Cup teams and won his last tournament at the U.S. Open in 2017.

When the 2018 PGA Tour season begins, Alcaraz is the only player in the field who has never played in a U.S. Open. He made the cut in both the Masters in 2018 and at the U.S. Open for the first time in his career, but ultimately was eliminated in the second round.

During his time on Tour, he has won three times and played in three majors, including the PGA Championship, which is not just for amateurs. Alcaraz’s final major victory came at the PGA Tour Championship in May.

After missing the cut at the Masters and the U.S. Open, Alcaraz was just about to play again in his hometown tournament at Pebble Beach Golf Links – just two weeks after his father passed away. Alcaraz battled through what he said was a “long and tough” final round to win the tournament and finish with a score Sunday that equaled the victory margin at the U.S. Open at Firestone Country Club in June of 2017.

He birdied the last two holes, which was his seventh hole in succession, before missing a short putt on the final hole. But he got up and down to tap in and then made bogey, setting up a three-way scramble for the title.

Alcaraz said he was happy to have the win in front of his father’s memory. He also had a special one of his own to remind him of when he said that he was going to play in his first U.S. Open when he was just 12 years old.

“It’s tough to get through this,” the three-time major winner said. “I was kind of waiting in case it was his day or day after. (He) still had a lot to do on July 30, 2017. Hopefully he had enough time in those last two months but it wasn’t to be. We
