Police searching for suspect in stabbing of elderly man in Mar Vista restaurant The suspect was being sought by police.
Mar Vista police are searching for a suspect in a stabbing that killed an 85-year-old man and injured three other people in a restaurant Monday.
Police say the suspect was in a car parked outside the Mexican restaurant near the intersection of U.S. 101 and East Mariposa St. when a fight broke out between two friends inside the restaurant.
Police say the suspect then drove around the restaurant, came back and “stabbed the 86-year-old victim around 10:30 p.m.”
He then drove away in a white Toyota Camry. Two other people were inside the restaurant at the time of the altercation. One of them was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
It was then that police learned the victim was an elderly man.
Officers have been searching the area for the white Toyota Camry.
No one was taken to the hospital. Police say the other people who were with the victim will be interviewed at a later point.
Officers tell us the suspects are still at large.
In a Facebook post issued late Tuesday night, the restaurant said: “We are thankful that everyone is safe. As a whole, we are thankful for the quick response from many sources in securing the scene and for our staff as well. Our family would like to express our heart felt gratitude to everyone who contributed to our success. We will all be working on the long term with making our business a better place for everyone.”
Mariposa Police say they do not believe the attack was politically motivated.
The website Fox5 reported that investigators are looking into a white sedan in the area, possibly connected to the suspect car.
Another person was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
That victim does not have a listed relationship to the suspect.
Police say a witness is helping police with the case. He will be interviewed at a later date.
The suspects description and whereabouts are still being verified.
