Paul Pogba’s brother, who was arrested in connection with alleged extortion attempt, was accused of attacking a police officer with a bicycle pump in November 2018.

In a statement released through the family’s account on Instagram, brother and cousin Jonathan Pogba said they were both arrested in connection with the incident, which alleged police brutality.

The incident allegedly happened on November 14, when a police officer approached Jonathan and took him to the police station after the two men had words.

When asked what sparked the argument, Jonathan allegedly said it was ‘about money’. He said he then told the officer that ‘a small part of his family’ was moving to London, to which the officer allegedly replied: ‘Where are you going?’

Paul Pogba’s brother was allegedly knocked to the ground when an officer allegedly pulled out a bicycle pump – and Jonathan said: ‘I was shocked’, according to a statement released by his family.

‘I was surprised,’ added Jonathan, who said he never intended to attack the police but was hit ‘harder than I could have ever imagined’.

‘I didn’t do it on purpose, but when he said “Where are you going?” I was shocked, shocked, shocked,’ he said. ‘I was hit harder than I could have ever imagined.’

‘I was just doing what kids do, we didn’t know he was an officer and what he was capable of.’

Pogba was not injured and was ‘allowed to go back home’ after police officers allegedly told him to leave the police station, said Jonathan.

‘I had never heard of a bicycle pump being used against a police officer before,’ he added.

The incident began when Jonathan asked the officer about a £2,000 loan he had taken out against his brother, who has played for Manchester United since age 16.

When asked why he had taken the loan, he said: ‘Because he [Pogba] is going to leave and I need the money.’

He said the officer told him: ‘Your brother is going to
